Ionization Rates Due to Cosmic-Rays

The ionization rate due to cosmic rays is shown as a function of radial
R and vertical Z position in the diffusive cosmic ray halo that
encompasses our Galaxy. The flux of the various cosmic-ray species
from which these results have been derived comes from the detailed
numerical diffusion model described by Strong & Moskalenko (1998).
In this model, the Galaxy is assumed to be axisymmetric and the surface
of the diffusive cosmic-ray halo is located at 4 kpc above and
below the midplane of the Galaxy's disk.
