This Thursday, September 8, we will attempt an experiment. In order to reduce the number of lectures that I will have to make up later I will attempt to give a class via skype. To this end "we" will meet this Thursday at our regular time (12:30 pm - 1:50 pm) but in Rm 190 ESB (instead of 158 Loomis). 190 ESB is a large lecture room in first floor of ESB (the "high rise" at the corner of Goodwin and Springfield). That room has a projector, a large screen and a computer with internet access. Our TA, Mr Di Zhou, will be there to rely your questions to me. As I said this is an experiment and if it is satisfactory I will give two more lectures this way.

This class is cancelled due to a family emergency.

Due to my family emergency I will be away until October 4. Another instructur will step in and replace me while I am away. You will be notified by Prof. Kevin Pitts who coordinates the teaching in the department.

Prof. Michael Stone has agreed to step in for me while I away. Prof. Stone will be giving the lectures beginning this coming Tuesday September 13. I expect to be back to give the lectures beginning on Thursday October 6.

I have to leave again due to a family emergency. Prof. Gordon Baym has agreed to give the Physics 582 lectures while I am away. The lectures will be at the usual time. I should be back around November 9. Needless to say we will not have the make up lectures until I get back here. I apologize for all the problems that this situation is causing to the class, and I am grateful for your understanding.

The deadline for Problem Set No.5 has been extended for one week to November 20, 2011.

We will have three make up lectures on Friday November 11, Friday November 18 and Friday December 2. We will meet in Rm. 158 LLP from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Problem Set No. 6 will play the role of the Take Home Final Exam for Physics 582. It is due on Tuesday December 13 at 5:00 pm. Please place your solutions in my mailbox in Loomis. Do not put your solutions in the Physics 582 homework box as I do not have access to it.
