| Our Undergraduate Program is for students wishing to major
in Physics and Astronomy, Medical and Health Physics, or who would like
to minor in Physics. The usual course of study includes Calculus, General
Physics including laboratory experiments in the first year. In the second
year, courses in differential equations, modern physics, mechanics are
suggested. In your junior and senior years, you can choose an area in which
to concentrate - Physics, Minor in Physics, Astronomy, Medical/Health Physics,
Secondary Education or Second Discipline. |
Course of Study
Physics/Second Discipline Concentration
For those students wishing to pursue a Physics major and a Second Discipline:
Substitute for * courses: MATH 2090 + at least 24 semester hours from an approved discipline outside the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Some examples of second disciplines are:
- Math
- Computer Science
- Engineering
- Environmental Science
Physics/Masters Degree in Computer Science
One attractive example is to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Master's degree in Computer Science. Utilizing the Physics with a Second Discipline option, this can be accomplished in five (5) years of study:
- Freshman (32 Sem. Hrs.) Physics
1201, 1202, 1208, 1209; Math 1550, 1551; Computer Science 1250, 1251;
General Education Arts course and English course (6).
- Sophomore (32 Sem. Hrs.) Physics 2203, 2221; Math 2057,
2090; Computer Science 2252; Biological Science courses (6); General
Education courses (9).
- Junior (34 Sem. Hrs.) Physics 2231, 4098, 4141; Computer
Science 2252, 3103; General Education and Foreign Language courses (16).
- Senior (31 Sem. Hrs.) Physics 4125, elective (3); Computer
Science 4103, 4104, Core & Systems courses (9); Statistics, Approved
Elective, Social Science/Humanities.
- Fifth Year Computer Science - Core 7000+, Computer Science
- Systems 7000+ (6), Systems Science 8000 (12); Coomprehensive Exam.
