Postdoctoral Researcher/Senior Postdoctoral Researcher
Quantum sciences and technologies group - one or more positions

The Quantum Sciences and Technologies (QST) Group expects to have, contingent on funding, an opening for one or more Postdoctoral Researchers or Senior Postdoctoral Researchers, starting as early as the spring semester of 2009. The initial appointments will be for one year and are expected to be renewed for another one to two years subject to satisfactory progress and availability of funds.

Required Qualifications: (Postdoctoral Researcher) Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or a related field. (Senior Postdoctoral Researcher) Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or a related field plus 3 years postdoctoral experience. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The QST Group at LSU is led by Jonathan Dowling, and consists also of Hwang Lee, an assistant professor in quantum optics, and three postdoctoral researcher positions. The group will also have close ties to faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Electrical and Computer Engineering in the microphotonics thrust area. In addition to those, the LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy hosts strong Quantum Optics and Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics activity, including Robert F. O’Connell (condensed matter, quantum optics, atomic physics, stochastic physics), A. Ravi P. Rau (atomic theory), Kenneth J. Schafer (atomic, molecular, and optical physics), and Mette Gaarde (theoretical atomic and optical physics).

The main research interests of the QST group are theoretical quantum optics, quantum information theory, photonic band-gap materials theory and design, and theory of high powered lasers. In particular, for this call, we are interested in persons with experience in quantum optical approaches to quantum information processing, quantum imaging, quantum sensing, and quantum metrology.

The deadline for receipt of applications is December 28th, 2008 or until candidate(s) selected. Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation, a curriculum vita (including e-mail address), and a statement of research interests to be sent to:
