French Quarter in New Orleans
June 4-7, 2012
New Orleans, Louisiana

The international conference focuses on a forefront challenge in physics, namely to achieve better comprehension of the origin, structure and evolution of baryonic matter in the universe, including descriptions of unstable nuclei and complex nuclear substructures, starting from considerations based on emerging symmetries and tied to a fundamental quark/gluon level.

The conference will be held in honor of Jerry Draayer's worldwide-recognized research and academic achievements on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Throughout his career, Jerry has made important contributions to nuclear structure physics and computational physics, mentored a number of students and postdocs, and served the science community in a number of leadership positions. The conference topics -- reflecting Jerry's outstanding research -- encompass a broad area of theoretical and experimental nuclear physics, fundamental physics, and high-performance computing.

TOPICS:
  • Emerging Symmetries in Nuclear Physics
  • Nuclear Structure Approaches for the 21st Century
  • Weakly-Bound Systems, Continuum Effects, and Reactions
  • Nuclear Astrophysics: Structure and Reactions for Understanding the Universe
  • Breakthroughs via Innovative Computational Approaches
  • Fundamental Principles of Nature: Hadronic Physics and Physics at Jefferson Lab
  • Beyond Basic-Science Research (Education, Science Policy, and the like)
