These pages were created by APS Topical Group on Gravitation (GGR) as a public resource for the World Year of Physics 2005: Einstein in the 21st Century. They are now maintained by the LSU relativity group. Contact pullin_at_lsu.edu if you encounter problems.

Space and Time Black Holes Expanding Universe Gravity Waves History

Einstein discovered Relativity in 1903, but this was only the tip of the iceberg -- the so-called "Special Theory." Development of the General Theory of Relativity took another 12 years!  When complete, it gave a new understanding of gravity and made made mind-bending predictions concerning the nature of space and time, black holes, and the big bang.

Now, in the 21st Century, Einstein's theory has been experimentally tested to high precision and is accepted by physicists as the modern description of gravity. These pages are provided for students, teachers, and members of the public interested in Einstein's Relativity and where it has lead in the last 100 years.  Click on the link bar above to learn more about a topic.
