BEOWULF CLUSTER-SYSTEMS SUPPORT
                      I.T. ANALYST/ I.T. COORDINATOR
                              (two positions)
     Center for Applied Information Technology and Learning (CAPITAL)
Louisiana State University (LSU) is seeking to fill two Information
Technology (I.T.) systems support positions for a newly acquired,
1024-processor   Beowulf-class  supercomputer  (Intel  P4  Plumas  chipset;
Myrinet network; Linux OS). Through LSU's Center for Applied Information
Technology and Learning (www.lsu.edu/lsucapital), this facility will
support a wide range of scientific and engineering applications, including
quantum chemistry, molecular dynamics, computational fluid dynamics,
macromolecular sequence, structure, and function analysis, data mining, and
seismic analysis. We expect one position (the systems operator) to be
primarily responsible for operating and maintaining the hardware system, so
we are especially seeking individuals with expertise in the operation and
maintenance of Linux-based clusters that function as a single parallel
computer. The successful applicant for the second (user support) position
will be expected to interface with the scientific and engineering user
community, so demonstrated expertise in one or more of the above mentioned
application areas is desirable. Applicants will be expected to conduct
training sessions to instruct students and faculty in the development of
parallel algorithms, especially the efficient utilization of
message-passing libraries. Applicants for both positions must have a
Bachelor's degree and at least two years of related experience to be
considered for appointment as an entry-level, I.T. Analyst; applicants with
a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience may
be considered for appointment at the level of an I.T. Coordinator.
Applicants with advanced degrees in technical engineering or science
disciplines are desired. A Master's degree will substitute for two years
of  experience  and  a  Ph.D. will substitute for five years of experience;
title and salary will be commensurate with credentials. Application
deadline is May 1, 2002 or until candidates are selected. Please send
resume and the names of three references to: Professor Joel E. Tohline (
tohline@lsu.edu), Department of Physics and Astronomy, Louisiana State
University, Ref: Log #0966, Baton Rouge, LA 70803-4001. Applicants
should specify whether they prefer to be considered for the systems
operator or the user support position.
