RESEARCH INTERESTS
My current research interest is imaging and detecting ionizing radiation for medical applications. We are developing advanced radiation imaging methods and detector technologies. We also perform research and developments on photon counting/energy resolving radiation detector technologies for medical x-ray and CT imaging. It is anticipated that this technology will improve detection and characterization of the cancer and heart diseases that are two major diseases. A particular area of interest is energy resolved CT that uses x-ray detector with capabilities of measuring energy of the detected x-ray photons. The energy resolved CT will allow routine CT examinations at low radiation dose applied to the patient. In addition, CT with energy resolved detector will allow material selective image reconstruction which allows decomposition of bone, calcifications and contrast agent from soft tissue. The CT imaging with material decomposition will further improve accuracy of the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
