RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Construction and use of a first-generation Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) , concentrating on the one in Livingston, Louisiana , a short drive from LSU. LIGO's science is organized by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, with member institutions around the world. LSU also is home to another gravitational-wave detector, ALLEGRO . LIGO, ALLEGRO, and my group at LSU are privileged to receive funding from the National Science Foundation.
- Research on an advanced seismic isolation system that is under early development for the next-generation LIGO detectors. This work is in close collaboration with Stanford, JILA/Univ. of Colorado, MIT, and the LIGO Lab.
- An experimental investigation of microscopic mechanical "creak" noise in stressed mechanical assemblies. This is for application to LIGO detector design, but may also be of general application to precision measurement science. This work is largely supported by a grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents.
