OUTREACH IN PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY
The LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy has re-opened its observatory on top of Nicholson Hall. The dome and telescope have been updated and refurbished and is now offering a viewing schedule for classes and the general public. Contact Bradley Schaefer, - (225) 578-0015.
The planetarium is located in Rm. 363 of Nicholson Hall. The Spitz A3P projector has been completely refurbished and reinstalled back into the planetarium, and is now available for both LSU classes and off campus groups. Contact Amy Campbell, - (225) 578-6849.

The observatory offers Friday night campfire talks followed by public observing, Saturday hands-on activities for elementary through high school students and the perfect field trip opportunity. Contact Dottie Hartman, - (225) 768-9948.
Part of NASA's National Space Grant, LaSPACE offers information on teacher resources available through NASA and is available for various school presentations and teacher workshops. For more information, contact Karen Johnson, - (225) 578-8680.
LIGO is a national laboratory devoted to detecting gravitational waves. It is located in Livingston Parish and offers a unique field trip experience. Students can paint murals on part of the beam tube and take part in a 30-minute program on the polarization of light. Contact Bonnie Wascom, - (225) 686-3100.
SPS is a student organization at LSU whose purpose is to promote the appreciation and advancement of physics and astronomy to the community. They are available for classroom presentations and demonstrations in physics, tutoring and help with science fair projects and host a high school competition each year.
