RESEARCH INTERESTS
Our interest is in Lattice QCD. Space time is replaced by a lattice of points. Dynamical variables are defined and then the lattice spacing is reduced until the lattice becomes irrelevant. This is the only way to calculate many quantities in fundamental theories. All solutions to fundamental theories must involve steps like this but this method is the only one which gives a completely consistent model, as an intermediate step, that can be simulated in its own right.
But lattice QCD is much more than just an algorithm for calculation. It is a viable framework to study fundamental properties of field theories. The confinement of quarks and gluons is one of the far-reaching properties of QCD. However a full understanding of this crucial phenomenon still eludes us. Lattice studies have helped make significant progress in our understanding.
Confinement of quarks appears to be similar to the study of superconductivity. We were the first to establish that a superconductivity feature known as an Abrikosov vortex forms between a quark and an antiquark, and that this feature accounts for quark confinement in this case.
