High Energy Astrophysics

The High Energy Astrophysics/Astronomy group expects to have several openings for postdoctoral or senior postdoctoral researchers starting in fall 2007. The initial appointment will be for one year and is expected to be renewed for another one or two years subject to satisfactory progress and availability of funds. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics, astronomy, or a related field is required, and at least three years of postgraduate experience is needed for the senior postdoctoral positions.

The main research interests of the group are analysis of gamma ray astronomy data using the GLAST Gamma Ray Burst Monitor, expected to be launched in early 2008; optical and infrared observations of black hole and neutron star binary systems; studies of very high energy cosmic rays with the Auger air shower array; and development of high resolution gamma ray and hard x-ray detectors for astronomy and national security applications.
