The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University seeks to strengthen its particle physics program over the next three to five years through the addition of experimentalists and theorists/phenomenologists. Nominations and applications are invited for the first of these hires, an Associate or Full Professor or an outstanding junior level experimental neutrino physicist who will be expected to build a
competitive research program. Current particle physics related programs are focused on accelerator based neutrino oscillation physics (T2K, MiniBooNE), solar neutrino studies (SNO), and astro-particle physics (Auger, satellite and balloon experiments).

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physics or a related field; proven research record with established and/or prospect of support.

Responsibilities: complements and enhances ties to the department’s programs in neutrino physics, astro-particle physics, and nuclear physics; teaches at the undergraduate/graduate levels; mentors students through to the Ph.D. degree.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy operates its own electronics, machine, and cryogenics shops. LSU is home to the Center for Computation and Technology (CCT) with several teraflop high performance computing clusters and the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) x-ray synchrotron.  It also has significant involvement in  the NSF’s LIGO facility located just 25 miles away and is a focal point of the Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI) with its node on the National LambdaRail.
