PHYSICS 7777 -Advanced General Relativity, Spring 2015.

This is a one credit course in which we will discuss the second part of the book by Wald and other assorted topics in advanced general relativity. We will meet Mondays at 3pm in 241 Nicholson. Due to significant travel by the instructor, we will also meet on Fridays at 2pm. The schedule for the course and assorted materials are as follows:

  • Monday January 26th. Review of Diffeomorphisms, Lie derivatives, Killing vectors, Lagrangian formulation. Carrol's notes.

  • Monday February 23rd. Homogeneous cosmologies.
  • Friday February 27th. Bianchi models: dynamics; algebraically special sols; discussion of Weyl tensor according to Carroll.
